Club news

Hello [[firstname]]

It's great to see new members at the club - playing squash, tennis, racketball and pickleball.
Welcome everyone! If you need any help or have questions, please get in touch with Lesley Sturgess for squash/racketball - 07941 312673. James Grindell for tennis - 07968 058383 or Brent Hudson for pickleball - 07885 427623

Squash and Racketball

Many congratulations to our Head Coach, Lesley Sturgess, on her victories at the National Racketball Championships - winning in both the over 60s and over 65s categories!

Club night continues on Fridays - 5:40 for racketball and 7pm for squash. All are welcome of whatever standard - come and join in.
Feel free to bring a friend if they are interested in joining the club. The bar will be open all evening.
Students are welcome to join just for the summer months and cancel when you move back to uni, just contact Sheila on sheilaalcock@aol.com

We are considering a kids' squash/racketball club in the last week of the summer holidays.
If interested, please email Lesley at lsturgess@hotmail.com

The next sessions of internal leagues for squash and racketball are due to be issued and will be for 6 weeks to give everyone time to complete all their matches.
Please contact leagues@duffieldsquashclub.co.uk if you wish to be included.

Pickleball
Membership for the coming year is very attractive at £5 a month or £60 for the year. So if you have friends, neighbours or relatives who are curious about Pickle, please encourage them to join one of our social sessions, where they can try out the sport before joining.

Socials are held Monday evenings from 5.30 onwards, Wednesday afternoons from 2pm and we have now introduced a drop in on Sunday mornings at 11am, an ideal time for tennis social players to give Pickle a go.

It's really pleasing to see that members are now organising their own Pickleball sessions. The courts are available for anyone to book.

On Monday we played our first Pickleball match. Chesterfield brought a team for a friendly social. Whilst competitive, the overall vibe was to have fun. Chesterfield edged it and we are looking forward to the rematch.

Tennis

For those of you who have joined the tennis club during your uni vacation, we are creating a 'student and 20-something' social on Wednesday evenings. Come along from 6pm - Head Coach James will be facilitating mixing in for doubles social play. Just drop in, and feel free to bring a friend if they are interested in joining the club. The bar will be open all evening and is cheaper than all other Duffield drinking venues! Students are welcome to join just for the summer months and cancel when you move back to uni.

The next ladies' social tennis afternoon will be on Saturday, August 10th, 4-6pm. Please sign up on the Doodle poll if you are able to come.

We hope everyone is enjoying their matches in the much more appropriate tennis weather, and thank goodness for the air-con indoors!

The gym is a gorgeous temperature during a heatwave, so if you are tired of hanging around in the Co-op, join up to use our brand new facilities.

Derbyshire County Tennis Champs: a note to all members that we will be hosting the County Championships again this year. As one of the strongest tennis clubs in the Midlands it is great that we are able to host such events and watch such high-quality tennis. Courts will be available for members throughout the week. The event begins on Aug 26th and finishes Aug 31st

The club is delighted to be hosting some LTA courses for tennis coaches and volunteers this Autumn, utilising the indoor spaces. If anyone else wants to hire a space, room for other activities or business meetings, please contact James 07968 058383

Social events

We have an exciting new social venture trialling this month: National Theatre Live - screening live, award-winning Theatre at the club. This begins Sunday August 11th, with the play 'Nye' starring Michael Sheen.
7pm start - 6.45pm to be seated otherwise you will get tutted at.

There is limited ticket availability on a first come first served basis, £15 with free drink hopefully in nice glasses and not a Sports direct mug. More details to follow this week with how to book. To express interest of attendance please text James on 07968 058383

You can watch the Olympics in our new coffee area situated downstairs. The TV will be on all day will full coverage, so feel free to relax and watch Olympic heroes go for gold, plus Andy Murray attempt to continue to win with one hip, bad back and half a knee.

The coffee machine is due to be installed next week (although you may see it arriving on Thursday). More details about coffee options, prices etc. next week, but in the meantime, start sourcing a reusable cup to keep in your kit bag so we don't have to use too many disposable ones.

Hot desking- this last few weeks we have seen quite a few parents working at the club whilst their children participate in activities. The club space is free to use with free WiFi. Please utilise if you need some desk space away from home.
