EGM and council election results

Hi [[firstname]]

On Wednesday evening, 264 members voted in the election of new DSTC council members. Dean, Mike and I were unopposed and Glynnis, Finlay and Sally secured individually between 68% and 70% of those votes cast.

On the night, the elections were:

Glynnis Wigram elected as secretary
Sally Hargreaves elected as Finance Lead
Finlay Stott elected as Facilities Lead
Dean Gregory elected as Squash Lead
Mike Corne elected as Gym Lead
Tony King Chair

I look forward to working with my fellow council members and for several reasons we found this a very encouraging and satisfying democratic outcome:

Firstly, as Mark commented, it was likely the largest vote recorded and the fact that 264 members voted shows that we have an active membership who care about the Club, its future and showed that commitment in giving the council a mandate to proceed.

Secondly, thanks to the efforts of many people, but particularly those previous council members stepping down who were recognised on the night, we are in a strong financial position to build on that future. But as was also said that night, commitment of funds to both restore and protect the club for the future, and on your behalf, as per the work so far, needs to be very carefully managed. The council, having been charged with this task has also ensured that the knowledge and experience of past members will also be actively sought so as not to lose their invaluable experience.

Thirdly, DSTC has a deservedly a collective great sporting heritage and considerable goodwill of the membership that shows we should have enormous potential to build on for the future. We will be actively seeking your help in realising that potential.

By way of this, we intend to keep members fully involved in the plans for future. In January we will hold our first open meeting with two objectives:

As an EGM to formally vote on the constitution update, any open or co-opted council positions and any other key resolutions the council feel that formal endorsement by the membership is appropriate.
The council will present the current financial and activity / utilisation position, the immediate priorities and our ideas of where we might go over the next few years. In the meantime, work will continue on court 1 and the changing rooms.

The marketing and communications lead still remains vacant and we are very keen to get this position filled, so please get in touch if you are interested in joining this dynamic team.

Thank you to all the people who have served on the council to date and thank you to all the people who attended on Wednesday night and also to those who voted via email.

Lastly, the council has considered the co-opted tennis lead put forward by the tennis committee. This being James Grindell. The council have accepted this recommendation and at the next EGM the club, as a whole, will have the opportunity to formally vote on the position by either endorsing James or any other candidate who also wishes to stand.

Kind regards on behalf of the council

Tony

Chair DSTC
