Members EGM update

Hi [[firstname]]

I had previously announced that there will be an EGM held to elect members for specific Club Council posts that have or are becoming vacant. Those elected at this EGM will be in post alongside those members of the council continuing in place until the first unified club AGM in 2025 when ALL posts will then be due for re-election as per the club constitution.

I was co-opted onto the council to provide an interim Chair earlier in the year and I believe this is the right time for me to step aside to enable an elected chair to be appointed to carry the club forwards.

I would highlight that the club is in a far better place on all fronts compared to before the unification. Squash is benefitting from an injection of energy and participation programmes, Tennis boasts record participation, Gym/Fitness has gained new members and additional classes, Pickleball has established itself with a defined growing membership and we are enjoying more Social events than ever.

There is still much we can achieve but please let's not lose sight of the great progress already being made.

Installing a range of new council members will provide an opportunity for the club to "reset" and build on so much work that has been undertaken in the background in the last few months, both sporting and administratively, to provide the club's foundation and the ability to springboard forward.

I would like personally to acknowledge the work, most of which has gone on unseen, by all my colleagues on the council, and I'm sure that members will thank them for their input and achievements, which allow us all to enjoy our preferred sports and social activities within the club. Particular thanks should go to Andy Page and Nigel Williams for their unstinting efforts, but also to Vic Malysz and Grenville Holt, who are also stepping down from their posts after delivering so much to the club, both within their current roles but also in their respective clubs prior to unification.

The council posts that are to be available for election will be Chairperson, Secretary, Finance Lead, Facilities Lead, Communications/Promotion Lead, Squash Lead, and Gym Lead. I am attaching descriptions of the various roles for information.

Please remember that as a members' club we need to have a capable team of people on the Council providing their time and skills administrating the club and that without a club council we do not have a mechanism to operate the club.

Individuals serving on the council are charged to look after the best interests of the club and its members as a whole and not just promote individual elements of the club. Please consider if you are able to be one of those people that can serve in such a position AND all members should be aware that the council, once elected, is there to operate, manage and administrate the club as they believe best for the time that they are in post - we all need to provide them with our full support.

Please do not just "leave it to others" this is the time to step forward and get involved.

If anyone considering becoming part of the council would like to have an informal conversation please do not hesitate to contact me, without commitment, and I'll be more than happy to chat through with you.

There will be a formal notice of an EGM issued in line with our constitutional requirements, however, due to the importance of this meeting I can now confirm that the intention is for it to be held on November 6th 2024 in the Club Bar at 7.30pm.
