We are pleased to confirm that the next phase of work in the club is anticipated to begin on Tuesday 22nd October to provide a suitable concrete subfloor in Squash Court 1 to replace the existing timber in earth. This work will entail initially fencing off two or three car park spaces immediately in front of the external wall of Squash Court 1, so that the builders have both a working area and compound.
The contractors will then look to create an access through the external wall. This is necessary to avoid closing the club during the work programme, while allowing machinery to excavate the floor and remove the spoil before continuing to lay a suitable new concrete subfloor that meets requirements. Once this has been completed, the wall will of course be reinstated.
There is no fixed contract period as until the excavation is undertaken, and the existing wall foundations exposed, it is impractical to determine the specific flooring design requirements. We are all keen that both disruption and timeframes are kept to a minimum.
On a slightly separate note regarding the changing rooms, I am suggesting to the Squash, Tennis and Gym sub-committees that they form a working party to agree on a design that can then be implemented. This is an ongoing work programme intended to provide improved facilities for all, rather than simply reinstating the existing changing facilities and missing the opportunity for improvement or suffering double expenditure.
