Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 31/03/24

Dear [[firstname]],

Not a huge amount to report this week, and this is the first comms note since your new Club Council was elected at the EGM last Tuesday.

Mini crème egg version

  • Some of the concrete edges have been removed from the wide side entrance to tennis court 1 to remove the trip hazard
  • The lovely squash courts are routinely available to book and are playing very well
  • Meeting with the insurers this week went well

Tennis

We have recognised that the new flood resilience concrete edgings along the wide opening of court 1 were causing a potential 25mm high trip hazard if players were distracted running close to the open edge of the court. So today that 12metre section of edging has been removed, and will be replaced by shallower edgings in due course. In the mean time please try to avoid scuffing the open edge of the carpet.

Squash

The newly refurbished squash courts are routinely available to book, so it will be great to see as many people as possible playing. Internal leagues start again soon.

Gym

The insurers have now agreed to pay for a professional gym company to assess and reinstall / bolt down as appropriate the final pieces of equipment. This has meant a frustrating delay to reopening, but we have got to make sure it is all safe for members to use.

Insurers

Last week we had a long but successful meeting with various representatives from the insurers. Overall the insurers are very supportive of the approach the club has taken to get sport and social activities restarted since the flood.

There are still delays getting some aspects of the final strip out and reinstatement costs agreed, and we are still waiting for final permission to buy some high value contents especially the new gym equipment. However, overall we are confident that we are getting a fair settlement for both the initial and ongoing losses we have incurred.

Hope everyone is having a great Easter.

Best regards,

Nigel
