Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 29/11/23

Dear [[firstname]],

Maybe a Mochaccino tonight ...

As planned the carpets on tennis courts 3, 4 & 5 have been stripped and rolled to reveal the tarmac in lovely condition beneath. Then over the last 2 days the entire 108 rolls totalling about 70 Tonnes of carpet have been shuttled one by one down the side passageway and loaded onto 3 articulated lorries which all manoeuvred from the far side of the A6 and up our car park. James did congratulate the HGV drivers that their lorries were parked between the lines in the car park better than some cars can manage.

The plan was to pressure wash the courts and paint the lines on Thursday and Friday meaning these courts would have been playable from this Saturday. Unfortunately the weather has got the better of us, and freezing conditions means that the contractors can't pressure wash or we would create Duffield's first ice rink - now there's an idea to send into 23townstreetduffield@gmail.com !

So apologies but courts 3, 4 & 5 will now hopefully be washed and painted on Monday and Tuesday and be available for play from mid next week. It's interesting how this is a real life example of no matter how well we try to plan and communicate the reinstatement activities, there will always be circumstances outside of our control that will mean last minute changes. We will try our best to keep changes to a minimum, but flexibility and understanding both ways will be key to getting us through the next several months unscathed and still talking to each other !

Keep a look out for another email from Sal & James on the specifics of tennis court bookings.

At the same time as the carpets were being stripped we have also straightened up the 4 leaning floodlight columns, so they are now all vertical.

It has been great to see members and guests using the bar on Mon, Weds & Fri evenings from 5.30 to 7.30, and It will be great to see even more members starting to come back down for a drink. There is a bigger social calendar of events being worked up which will be communicated separately.

A reminder that next week Courtmasters will start to hack the plaster off the lower parts of the squash court walls to speed up the drying out process. Also Polygon will be starting to strip out many other ground floor lower wall areas and installing forced air drying kit. At the moment we don't really know what impact this will have on our ability to use the upstairs but as soon as we know we will communicate it.

Best regards,

Your Recovery Team
