Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 03/01/24

Dear [[firstname]],

Happy New Year,

First note of the year!

======================================

Short

Happy New Year to all of our members waiting patiently for the rather damp Phoenix to rise from the floodwater.

Longer

Squash

Just before Christmas plastic forced drying tents were installed across the lower sections of all the squash courts. For those who haven’t seen it this clever drying technique is the same set up that you can still see inside the almost new Hunters Jaguar / Range Rover dealership on the A52 leaving Derby. It certainly seems to be working as the measured moisture levels in the walls have now dropped considerably and the contractors believe that the courts will be deemed “dry” by the end of next week, when they can remove all their equipment and issue us a “dryness certificate”.

Courtmasters have been back in yesterday and during w/c 15th Jan they will start to replaster courts 3, 4 & 5 prior to laying all new beech floors. Their plan is that our members will be playing squash / racketball in courts 3, 4 & 5 by the end of February. Fantastic news.

As mentioned previously we have kept the ladies changing rooms untouched since the flood, and whilst it will need stripping and refitting, for now it is fully operational. By the end February we will need to work out how best to manage the shared use of this single facility of a changing room & showers -- answers on a postcard to the squash committee ?

Tennis

The tennis carpets are in production and the exact installation timings will be driven by the manufacturer and then the weather. Fingers crossed for dry and snow free weather.

The plan is to lay and sand fill courts 3, 4 & 5 whilst we still play on courts 1, 2 & 7. Then when 3, 4 & 5 are finished and we can play on them, the contractor can start on 1 & 2 which also need new concrete edgings fitting in place of the existing wood so they will be more flood resistant.

Gym

Some of the equipment has been deemed as beyond repair whilst other kit is being professionally cleaned in readiness for the gym to start up again. This is still however a few months off I am afraid.

Subscriptions

A very gentle and polite reminder to members who haven’t yet renewed their membership subs.

We have said previously that we are asking members to support the club by continuing to pay your subs so that we maintain cash flow during the recovery process. THEN when we are fully operational, should you wish, we will freeze your payments for an equivalent number of weeks. Those who paid an annual fee can have their membership extended.

It does go without saying that this offer would only apply if you have in fact carried on paying your subs to help the Club’s cash flow during this disruption!

We think this weekly update note will now routinely come out on a Sunday, so this is an extra one in case you were pining for information.

Best regards,

Your Duffield Recovery Team
