FACILITIES NEWS

ClubSpark migration to MyCourts

This has been successfully completed and members are now able to book all courts via MyCourts. If any members have not received their login details for MyCourts, please email membership@dstc.uk to get the matter resolved.

Flood Action Plan

We are happy to announce we are confident we are in a good position with the club's flood defences for the upcoming winter.

Thank you to the members who have volunteered to be on the flood action team. In the event of a flood this trained team will be stood up and carry out all flood actions to ensure the safety of the club's facilities and its members.

Please support the club and its flood team in the event of a flood notice. We will do everything we can to not close the club but if this happens, please follow all the guidance sent out.

FITNESS NEWS

As membership increases, it becomes ever more critical that all users observe the requirement to book a slot in the gym before entering the facility. It causes huge frustration for users who follow the procedure, only to find others there who, while they may be members, have not booked a slot. Once booked, please try to accommodate each other, recognising when others are waiting to use the equipment, and co-operating as far as possible to meet everybody's needs.

Should you have concerns over these procedures, or any thoughts as to how the gym could be operated more efficiently, we would look forward to any feedback - please feel free to submit your thoughts to fitness@dstc.uk

PICKLEBALL NEWS

A succesful summer of Pickleball comes to an end. Membership has grown from 30 at the start of the year to over 100 with a full programme of social, intermediate and advanced play supported by a comprehensive coaching programme.

The winter schedule starts in October with outdoor daytime and evening floodlit sessions. There will also be two indoor sessions at Belper and Ripley Leisure Centres.

Teams

The two teams entered in the inaugural Derbyshire leagues have had mixed fortunes. The A Team is still looking for its first win and the B Squad is doing well with a good chance of finishing second. Both commendable performances since we have only been playing 12 months and are up against teams that have much more experience.

2026 sees the launch of a Derbyshire Premier league, played indoors, running from January to May. We have entered two teams and would welcome anyone who would be interested in playing in the teams through the winter months. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played before - Tennis, Squash and Racketball are transferable skills and you would have three months to get up to speed.

SOCIAL NEWS

National Theatre Live, Mrs Warren’s Profession, Sunday 26 October 6.45 pm, £15

Five-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton (The Crown) joins forces with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) for the very first time, playing mother and daughter in Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic.

Vivie Warren is a woman ahead of her time. Her mother, however, is a product of that old patriarchal order. Exploiting it has earned Mrs. Warren a fortune – but at what cost?

Filmed live from the West End, this new production reunites Staunton with director Dominic Cooke (Follies, Good), exploring the clash between morality and independence, traditions and progress.

Please email Gill at duffsportsocial@outlook.com if you would like to join us. It would be great to have a good turnout from the club.

SQUASH NEWS

Teams

Both Derbyshire and Notts leagues kicked off the Winter League season. Duffield as strong as ever, fielding 3 teams in the Derbyshire League and 2 teams in a very strong Notts League. Duffield’s 1st team have already been in action in both leagues and are off to a very strong start, winning 5-0 in Derbyshire at home to Alfreton and 4-1 in Notts at home against Grantham.

There will be some quality Squash on show on Monday / Thursday evenings if you’re looking for inspiration in your game. See the Rolling Notice Board or the notices for the dates. Get down the club and support your teams.

Exhibition Match

This turned out to be a hugely successful, entertaining and well supported event. Thanks to all who came along and we hope you enjoyed the top class squash that was on display.

Duffield Open

Millie Tomlison organised another successful Graded tournament, with a quarter of the entrants coming from our club. Congratulation to Millie who was the Grade A winner, Marcus Thomas who was the Grade B runner up, and Alex Lapworth who was the Grade C winner.

Friday Racketball Socials continue to gain momentum with something for all levels.

Friday Squash Club-night is also growing evermore popular now club professional Matt Gregory, who concentrates on performance coaching, has taken over the sessions. It’s even attracting the Juniors again which is fantastic.

Free Sunday Drop in Sessions have proven so popular we have decided to extend them. So if you’re at a loose end or you have friends and family who would like to come and try the sport, then bring them down. It’s fun and relaxed and there’s plenty of people to show you how to start off. Equipment can be provided. These sessions will be led by club professional Matt Gregory

FINALLY

Happy birthday to Cyn Varney
