Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 28/01/24

Short Version

  • Tennis and Squash court refurbishment moving apace.
  • Gym room now cleared ready for renovation.
  • Flood mitigation measures under way.

Longer Version

Lots of work this week replastering the squash courts so that new flooring can be laid. We aim to be playing again on the best quality courts in the area by the end of February.

Now that the clubhouse is officially dry, further strip out work is scheduled to prepare for the renovation.

The gym space is now empty with equipment either safely removed, stored, and cleaned, or disposed of to be replaced. We have obtained quotes for the large items which were damaged beyond repair and form part of the contents insurance claim.

Flood mitigation measures continue as we won’t have flood insurance in the near term. There are a number of measures being assessed to better protect the club, such as flood gates at entrances, one-way valves in the drains and improvement of the flood wall . The air bricks around the squash courts, which were a major source of water ingress, have now been sealed.

Re- carpeting of tennis courts 3,4,and 5 starts this Monday 29th. The work is scheduled to complete on Feb 9th and our supplier has ‘double teamed’ the project to ensure speedy progress.

The car park will be closed for approximately two weeks and access to the club house and courts will require great care and patience as we allow transport of sand and carpets in the alley by the side of the club.

To allow pedestrian access avoiding the contractors, we’ll open the side gate giving access from the Chapel St. entrance – If you’re not sure where that is – just ask a friend / committee member who does.

Social events are being well-supported - more are planned. The existing toilet facilities in the ladies’ changing room and hallway are working well and will remain available for the time being; when we need to commence work in these areas, we’ll ensure alternative provision.

Best regards,

Duffield Recovery Team
