Coronavirus - Club Statement Update 5

No doubt many of you will have seen the Government announcement last Thursday (9th July) about indoor sports facilities being able to re-open from 25th July. What does this mean for our Club?

In my last brief, I mentioned that England Squash issued their "Back to Squash" draft guidance. It recommends performing a risk assessment and producing a COVID-19 secure plan detailing how we will operate once we are allowed to re-open.

England Squash today issued the following statement;

"The wait is almost over. On Thursday 9 July, the UK Government announced that indoor sports facilities in England can reopen from 25 July with social distancing and a range of other protocols in place. This means that from this date, squash clubs and venues that implement the necessary safety measures can begin a phased return to play.

Full guidance released tomorrow
In the meantime, we are reviewing the extensive Government guidance in relation to indoor facilities to understand the implications this has for squash and what measures clubs and venues must implement.

We will release full guidance and resources tomorrow (Tuesday 14 July).

The full guidance will include:
• Top five tips for clubs and venues
• Creating a club/venue COVID-19 Secure Plan
• Guidance for conducting a COVID-19 risk assessment
• Poster kit
• Ways to play
• Delivering COVID-19 Secure Squash (for coaches)
• Where to find additional support and resources"

In readiness for the full guidance, I have been appointed the COVID-19 Lead Officer to devise and deliver a COVID-19 Secure Plan for our Club, then monitor and report progress/success.

This in itself will be a significant undertaking, and so I stress my role will be limited to looking at how we can safely re-open the squash courts only. The gym will be in the responsibility of the Gym Committee. I will be working closely with the House team, and with the Tennis and Gym committees to ensure we deliver a consistent approach across our membership. Clearly Tennis are already up and running with limited access to the toilet situated between courts 1 & 2.

Further information will be published once we have digested the guidance.

In the meantime, keep safe, the virus hasn't gone away yet.
