From the Chair of DSTC Council, following the first meeting

Hi [[firstname]],

This is a brief note following the first Council meeting held on April 16, for information, and to ask for help! The full minutes of the meeting will be posted on the website.

The council is a team with common purpose and values. Our task is to ensure that the Club is ever more successful, well placed for the future, and a great place to play and enjoy racquet sports. It helps having council members who already have experience serving the club as well as diverse experience from other walks of life.

At the first meeting we discussed the need to communicate effectively, be fully inclusive with clear governance and appropriate behaviours.

In addition to the numerous efficient basic functional requirements to run the club, which was an area of focus for this initial meeting, development of sport specific strategies and people to action them is critical, and a first step to driving forwards to success.

Each member of the Council is tasked with forming a sub-group to develop detailed strategy proposals underpinned with sound reason and financial data. Clearly there are many common themes that underpin and support each sport strategy.

This is a request to please get involved and support your Council lead and their sub groups . Do you know what they are doing? Can you contribute?

The Council will review all the proposed strategies in some detail to get to the point that these can all be approved as a coherent club strategy. As an example, towards the end of the meeting we had an initial look at the emerging squash strategy. There is still further evaluation required and areas for further work have been identified, but at the same time there are many good ideas and actions.

I would reiterate that we need club members to participate in relevant sub groups to aid strategy development, but also to build their understanding of proposals, the drivers and how / who will action these strategies once approved to bring them to life.

The Council have no pre-planned or expected outcomes or decisions. Our goal is to have the overall and specific sport strategies in place in about 3 months. Faster would be better. Specific obvious actions are already being agreed and implemented by council leads.

Finally the bar and social strategy is also central to the success of the club and each sport strategy. There is great work going on already BUT the Council lead for Social is vacant. It is crucial that we fill this post. Please speak to a member of Council if you think that social lead could be you.

Below are the Council leads and email details, please make contact and offer support.

Thank you,
