Pickleball Summer at Duffield

Dear [[firstname]],

Pickleball is a relatively new sport that is growing in popularity for people of all ages. For some it has become their main sporting activity for others it complements their main sport. Tennis, Squash and Racketball players can all benefit from playing Pickle - it helps volleying, net play, slice and touch. Moreover it is good fun, high energy and incredibly social.

Due to the efforts of club member Martin Williamson, with support from the tennis club, we have an active Pickle Playing community that have met and played, indoors, every week throughout the winter months. The majority of this are members of Duffield Squash and Tennis Club.

We are delighted that we can now outline the plans for Pickleball at the club throughout summer. We currently have three courts marked out on court 6 with plans to have 4 resurfaced dedicated courts by mid May. We are also able to increase court capacity onto court 7 by using temporary lines.

We will commence weekly Pickleball Socials on the 2nd of April. All members are welcome, we will start at 4.30pm and will play until 6.30pm (or a little later if the court is still free) We will run the session as a drop in, similar to the way tennis socials work, so players can arrive and leave at any time. New players wanting to have a go can borrow Paddles on the night. In addition there is already a Wednesday afternoon social session which, due to its’ success, will be extended to two hours - 2pm to 4pm. Again, this will be a social drop in.

We are also very happy to support non members that have been playing throughout the winter and would like to continue playing, out doors, at Duffield. There will be a special arrangement allowing people to play in all of the Pickleball sessions throughout the summer. All we ask is that players join as social members. This will cover them until new membership pricing structures, including Pickleball, are introduced later in the year. This offer will also be open to other non members who want to try Pickle at the club. This is a great offer. For a one off cost of £38, people can play and enjoy the social facilities of the club. So if you know people that are interested, invite them down to a social and we can take it from there.

As mentioned, court 6 will be resurfaced, after which, we will have four, first class, dedicated, Pickleball Courts. This will be done by Fosse, who have refurbished our tennis courts and are experts in the design and build of Pickleball courts. The work will commence mid April and courts will be available in May. During this time we will temporarily move the socials onto court 7, with removable lines.

Finally, socials aren’t the only way to play Pickle. Courts are open to book on the Clubspark system in the normal way. It would be great to see people organising their own games. In addition, junior activity, box leagues and inter club matches will be introduced over the coming weeks.

We look forward to seeing many of you, on court, throughout the Summer.
