As you know, we installed a new real-bean coffee machine in August. After great success initially, coffee sales have dropped off dramatically, rather than building up as we had hoped.
We have now adjusted the strength of the coffee and switched to Arabica beans - widely acknowledged to be of a high quality.
Thanks to those of you who are using the machine, enjoying the drinks, and for your feedback and encouragement.
However, plenty of people are still going across the road to Birds and bringing back coffee, and some who tried it once at the beginning have never tried again, despite our response to your feedback. I know there are sausage rolls, meal deals etc at Birds, but...
As you may recall, this machine is on a one-year trial and if it is not well used, we may have to send it back at the end of that year. We feel this would be a great shame, it is a real asset and contributes to the enhanced feel of the club we are developing going forward and many people are enjoying it.
In order for the machine to break even, we only need to sell an average of 8 drinks a day - which doesn't sound much. However, after achieving this in the first weeks, we are now averaging only 4 or 5. The machine offers a great facility, particularly on Saturday mornings when so many parents are around for children's activities, and we encourage you to use it.
We are aware that many people prefer to make their own drinks upstairs, and please feel free to do so.
But please also consider tasting the delicious, freshly ground, bean coffee, and creamy smooth hot chocolate available. You can enjoy a high-quality drink and support the club.
