A Message from our Club President

To all squash and gym members,

We thought that now is an appropriate time to give an update on the current state of the club as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and subsequent government restrictions placed on our activities.

As you are all aware, the club is in a state of lockdown and thanks to the continuing efforts and vigilance of the House Team, the clubhouse is being regularly monitored.

Even though the club is closed we are still facing ongoing costs, so we are seeking clarification as to whether the various measures of support recently announced by the Chancellor will be applicable to us. In addition, Sport England have announced a new Community Emergency Fund with grants between £300 and £10,000 available, while England Squash have launched a grant aimed at helping clubs get ready for reopening. Thanks go to our Treasurer for leading this investigation.

During the closure there will be no revenue from squash court or gym bookings, meaning we will have to rely on our reserves.

Faced with these challenging times, we want to ensure the club will be ready when we are allowed to reopen, and in this respect, we have to look after our finances.

Members who pay their subscriptions by standing order are asked to help the club by continuing to make their payments. Rest assured we are investigating various ways of “balancing the memberships’ books” when it comes to subscription renewals later in the year, so that everyone is fairly treated.

Thank you in advance for your support, understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you all at the Club soon.

Russell Moore – Club President, on behalf of Duffield Squash & Racketball Club Executive
