Wimbledon and the Euros are complete, the sun has appeared at last, school holidays begin and many of us head for the beach. Meanwhile, there’s still lots happening at DSTC…
Radio Derby visited us on Thursday 11th and presented live from the club as part of their Wimbledon feature. They covered a range of topics from Wimbledon, coaching, fitness and injury prevention to sport chaplaincy.
Friday 12th
was a lively night at the club with the quiz, squash club night and tennis making for a great atmosphere. Many thanks to quizmaster Neil Smith who got the balance just right and is now working on his singing skills.
On Sunday 13th we hosted the ‘
Play Your Way to Wimbledon
’ tournament with juniors and adults attempting to reach the regional finals – future champions in the making.
The British National Racketball Championships take place this weekend at Edgbaston priory. Our own Lesley Sturgess is competing, so feel free to go along to play or see some high-class action. Details are included in the link: https://www.uk-racketball.com/national-championships.html.
Squash memberships are due in September – a reminder of payment options will be issued by the squash committee soon.
The new
squash sub-committee
has now been formed: Vic Malysz – Leader and Council Member, Dean Gregory – Club Captain, Mike Dyer – Promotion and Communication, Gill Ford – Website Editor and Events Coordinator, Matt Britten – Finance Support, Ralph Cooper – Website and Systems, Adrian Watts - Projects. Many thanks to these and all other members who commit their time and energy to running the club. We will feature the other club committees in forthcoming bulletins.
Our new downstairs
coffee lounge
is taking shape with new flooring and wall cladding, plus a smart TV. The quality bean coffee machine will be here soon to complete the new facility. You’ll also notice there are now raised electric circuits which are part of our flood mitigation plan.
A new, larger TV
has been installed in the lounge upstairs to enhance the experience for sporting socials and forthcoming NFT events. It was fantastic to have it available for Ladies’ Day and the Women’s final as well as the Euros final. Many thanks to Nick Sargent and Vic - great work!
Summer Holiday Kids Club
- spaces are filling up, so Contact James 07968058383 for further info. Your children or grandchildren will enjoy the breadth of activities this summer. The cost is very affordable and won't dent your pocket too much, while giving you a chance to have a breather in the day between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
There’s still plenty of time for young and old to submit entries for our
art competition
. The works are already on display in the lounge, and there’s scope for more. Judging takes place in September at the tennis tournament finals weekend.
Our
