Club News

Our new website is now live at https://duffieldrf.club

We hope you will find it useful – please take a look and tell your family and friends where they can find the latest information about the club. Key features include:

Sports pages - everything you need to know about each sport at Duffield, including a useful timetable of regular coaching, social play, and fitness sessions. We have separate pages for Coaching and Youth.

About Us - information about the club, the council, and our club vision, values and policies – the history of our club is also shared here.

What’s On - contains a club calendar of events – click on the event titles for more information about social and other events as well as booking forms where needed.

News posts – these appear on almost every page – just click to open the full article – or look in the News summary page under the What’s on tab for a full listing.

Contacts page - the main email addresses can be found here together with an enquiry form. We also have new email addresses to go with our new web address. Contact information for coaches, sports leads, and other club officials appears on the relevant pages throughout the site.

MyCourts - we will continue to use this system for court booking and memberships – you will find direct links to these pages on the new website. You will also notice that MyCourts has a ‘new look’ - it is now sporting our new logo and colours.

Brand Guidelines

To go with our new website, we have developed new brand guidelines so that any volunteers creating club documents or publicity materials will be able to produce them in our house style – contact marketing@drf.club for more information.

Carnival Week Open Evening – June 25 from 6 pm
Bring your family and friends to tour the club or try out any of our sports. The bar will be open for refreshments.

Section News

Squash/Racketball
Club Championships 2026

Congratulations to our winners and thanks to all who played in this year’s two-part racketball and squash championships which worked well. Bar takings were around £900 and £650 respectively and a great night was had by all.

A special thanks to Finlay Stott and Gill Ford for arranging the event and to Ian McKinnon, Tien-Manh Dinh and Lesley Sturgess for organising the food.

Derbyshire Squash Summer League

Derbyshire Squash Summer League started this month with Duffield Squash entering two teams. Our Duffield 1 team, playing in Division 1 will be tested this summer as both Nottingham and Rushcliffe have entered teams from across the county border, creating a tougher competition for all. Duffield 2 will be playing in Division 2 this summer where we expect a steady, solid performance.

News from our professional and international players

Rhys Evans has recently broken into the world’s top 100 players. Matt Gregory has been competing at a range of tournaments in the UK and internationally in South Africa and Sue Smith competing in Canada. Lesley Sturgess and Marcus Thomas performed well in the Home Nations Internationals, representing England and Wales respectively.

Next month, Karl Hardy, Lesley Sturgess, Felix Frixou, Sue Smith, Lesley Sturgess and Marcus Thomas will compete in the British Masters Open. Watch out for our players on Squash TV.

Tennis/Pickleball

Duffield is hosting multiple Senior County events this summer with Derbyshire over 40s and 60s using the club for their matches - all welcome to come down to watch.

Youth

Half-Term Holiday Club , Tuesday 26 – Friday 29 May 9 am – 3pm

Keep the kids happy and active this half-term at our fun, multi-sport and tennis holiday club. Youngsters aged 4 – 14 are welcome.

Cost: £25 per day (£20 for multiple day bookings).

Well done to Noah for competing in Lithuania at a Tennis Europe event – an amazing achievement and great experience. Congratulations also to all the Duffield juniors representing Derbyshire this summer - enjoy competing and have fun.

Fitness

For those of you who are keen to improve your fitness, whether to boost your racquet performance or just your general health and well-being, we offer a range of classes that are now listed on the website together with the contact details of our trainers. Don’t forget, all racquets’ members may use the gym on a pay as you go basis, following a short induction.

Social
Sisters’ Social , Wednesday 27 May, 7.30 – 9.30 pm

Don’t miss our next Sisters’ Social. By popular request, we have changed the date to the last Wednesday in the month to avoid clashes with other events. Ladies from all sections are invited. Play cards or board games or just enjoy a drink and nibbles in the comfort of our club bar. Chat with your team-mates, bring your friends and have a great time!

NTL Playboy of the Western world , Sunday 7 June 6.45 pm, £15

Why travel into Derby or Belper when you can see all the National Theatre Live plays in the village – join your fellow theatre buffs and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine while watching the play on the big screen in our club bar.

Caitríona McLaughlin (Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre, Dublin) directs Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in Playboy of the Western World, John Millington Synge’s riveting story of youth and self-discovery.

Quiz Night – Saturday 13 June, 7.00 for 7.30 pm start

Join us for our ever-popular quiz with our new host Stuart Gibbens.

We’ll be serving a ploughman’s supper with fresh pork pies, a selection of cheeses and a salad garnish or you can request our veggie option of frittata – unfortunately we cannot cater for food allergies. Teams of six – team leader signs up on the website and pays in advance. Prizes for the winning team.
