Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 17/12/23

Dear [[firstname]],

There have been two brilliant sold out social events over this weekend. On Friday, Ray Hatfield entertained with some classic music which got lots of folks dancing, then last night the local kitchen choir helped kick start Christmas with a selection of songs and carols that might even have got all 4 chairs turning. OK maybe not, but it was still a hugely enjoyable evening.

Huge thanks go to the social committee, Leggy for putting down the dance floor, Glenn Wickes for the choir night, and the bar staff for keeping everyone’s fluid levels up.

Squash court installers Courtmasters came back last Friday and they are waiting for the insurers to issue a "dryness certificate" before they can continue their work. We have agreed provisional dates for them to plaster the walls and lay completely new beech floors, and if everything goes to plan we will be playing squash again by the end of Feb.

The condition of the floors in squash courts 1 & 2 is still subject to technical discussions and final agreement by the insurers before any reinstatement works can be planned.

The wider ground floor strip out continues and last week has seen the gym floor lifted and the walls partially stripped to allow for full drying of the building fabric.

The insurers have carried out an electrical inspection of the gym equipment and currently the two running machines and one of the cross trainers have definitely been deemed BER (Beyond Economic Repair), however most of the other mainly mechanical kit can probably be professionally repaired and cleaned.

Given the need to strip back more of the gym walls prior to plastering and to prepare the whole floor for relaying, it has been proposed to uplift all the gym equipment to storage which will allow builders unrestricted access to the space. It is therefore currently hard to predict when the gym will reopen but unfortunately it will be a few months yet, and as soon as we know more we will let you know.

The tenders for the full building strip out and reinstatement have been returned to the surveyors, and they will be assessed by the insurers and ourselves prior to a decision being made to appoint a Principal Contractor. We suspect this process will be concluded in mid January.

Best regards,

Your Recovery Team
