Invitation to Duffield Box Leagues 2026/27
Hi to one and all,
We have pleasure in inviting you to join Duffield’s 2026/27 Box Leagues. The box leagues are an annual competition where you can have fun and meet members of our club. The league runs from October 1st, 2026, to May 31st, 2027, and comprises, lady’s, men’s and mixed box leagues.
Each league is made up of boxes of four players. Each month the players, in each box, play a match, rotating partners, between each set. The result of the box matches determine who moves up and down the league. Full rules will be issued to all who joins.
Last year we had players at every level from beginners to first team members take part, in total over 60 club members. Following the success of last year’s approach to how players were initially placed in boxes, the same approach will be adopted this year. The starting position for each player will:
1 be guided by the players finishing positions in the 2025/26 Box leagues.
2 where a player is joining for the first time in 2026/27 an assessment of their standard of play will be obtained.
3 the initial starting positions will then be done to achieve two aims:
provide more mixing of players, so the social aspect is strengthened
allowing the best players to reach the top so keeping the competitive element.
However, the overall objective is the to provide an enjoyable experience.
Because of Christmas and the Derbyshire league matches there will 6 rounds of matches between October and May. December and January as well as April and May will combine to form one period each. This avoids undue time pressures at busy times.
Previous years Have been highly successful. So much so that when the invites went out to last year’s league members within two days 27 members confirmed wanting to play again and confirmations were coming in every day.
If you would like to join the Box leagues, please contact John Hutchby either, by email on john@lebrenne.net or text on 07711185828 saying which of the Leagues you are interested in, Lady’s, Men’s and or Mixed.
You will not only be playing in the box league but will have the opportunity, to contribute to the continuing improvement of the league. An important part of the league is feedback from players. All feedback is reviewed and where it is beneficial, built into the approach.
I would also like to take the opportunity to bring to your attention to the Derbyshire men's, mixed and ladies' winter league indoor evening matches against other clubs at Derbyshire Tennis Centre.
