Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 21/01/24

Dear [[firstname]],

Shorter

The club is officially dry (sort of).

We were on the telly.

The car park will be shut on Monday 29th Jan

Longer

The specialists that have been stripping and drying the club have officially said we are dry again, another milestone. The exception is the old floor on court 1 which was laid on the bare earth and therefore will never dry. This will need a separate solution. As a consequence all of the dehumidifiers will be removed, along with all of the scrapped major equipment in the gym and sheds. This does mean that those of you that have enjoyed subtropical heating in the club will have to bring another jumper as we become responsible for own heating again.

The recovery of the club featured on BBC East Midlands on Friday and their associated website. Unfortunately we just missed the deadline for a BAFTA nomination.

Squash court 3 has been replastered, with courts 4 and 5 close behind. Slightly incredulously, they have run out of the specialist plaster. They will return on 23rd February to finish off, including the new floors. We are still looking to have play restart in early March.

The tennis carpets for courts 3, 4 and 5 are on their way. They are planned to be delivered on 29th January and be ready for play by 8th Feb. Note the car park will be CLOSED on Monday 29th January to allow them access.

We no longer have flood insurance. Consequently we have drawn up a list of 10 things we can do ourselves to minimise the future risk. These are being implemented in time for when the squash and tennis surfaces have been completed. The first one is to block up all the redundant air bricks around the building, which has been completed. Separately the discussion with the Environment Agency continues, they convened a meeting on Monday 15th Jan. They have acknowledged that the Castle Court, Squash/Tennis clubs and Ecclesbourne Court area is high on their priority list.

Best regards,

The Recovery Team
