Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 15/11/23

Dear [[firstname]],

Short version

It’s 40 days until Christmas. As well as sending your wish list to Santa please keep the ideas flowing into 23townstreetduffield@gmail.com to create a club fit for the future.

Longer version

Open Day

  • We are having a controlled Open Day this coming Saturday 18th Nov from 10 – 2 so that members can come and have a look around.
  • The clubhouse and external areas are safe to visit, but requires caution.
  • Accordingly we have completed a risk assessment defining the areas that will remain out of bounds.
  • Respect whatever barriers you see, safety instruction signs, or verbal instructions you are given.
  • This will be the first time we will have allowed members inside the flood affected club, so whilst it is intrinsically safe, it would be appreciated if young children do not accompany members who visit.
  • After the tour the upstairs lounge will be open for teas & coffee, and we are hoping to also trial opening the bar for the first time.
  • The unisex toilet in the hallway is fully operational and is the only one currently available.

Use of lounge during the daytime, and the bar in the evening

  • It has always been our aim to find a way of opening up the club social facilities as quickly as it is safe to do so.
  • Starting next week we plan to allow safe access up into the lounge area for daytime tea & coffee.
  • Also starting next week we plan to open the bar some evenings, and a small team are working with the Bar Managers to finalise details and decide which evenings to open.
  • Further specific details about the lounge and bar will be in the email on Sunday.
  • These modified opening arrangements will be subject to change when specific contractors are carrying out planned works inside the building, or outside on the tennis courts and we will communicate any changes in good time.

Gym

  • We are conscious that we haven’t specifically mentioned the gym too often in these communications, and apologies for that.
  • The gym was under water the same as the rest of the whole ground floor and we are waiting for the insurers to decide what they will do to replace or professionally strip and clean the various pieces of equipment in the gym.
  • The fabric of the gym room itself is the same as the whole ground floor which will be subject to a partial strip out of the wall plaster and lifting of the flooring prior to reinstatement as part of the main building works.
  • Timings of these works will be communicated as soon as we know more details from the insurers.

New House Manager

  • We are delighted that Chris Johnson has just started as the club’s new House Manager. I’m sure many of you will recognise him from around the village, and until very recently Chris was the long standing Chairman of the Duffield Community Association. His role was set up and communicated several weeks before the flood, however for the duration of the recovery works Chris will assist the process by being an on site point of contact for the recovery team, members, and contractors who will need planned access.

Thanks and best regards,

Your Recovery Team
