Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 08/03/24

Dear [[firstname]],

Short version

  • The weekly email is today rather than Sunday because the script writers are going skiing!
  • We now have 6 lovely brand new carpeted tennis courts
  • The 3 new squash courts are fully open, and the bar stays open until 10pm Monday to Friday
  • The refurbished Gym will be open very soon

Longer version

Tennis

  • Helped by good weather Fosse have done a great job this week laying and sanding courts 1, 2 & 7.
  • There are a couple of areas mainly on court 7 where the carpets need to relax and lay fully flat which is normal.
  • Fosse will be back from probably Monday to Weds next week so there will be a little bit more unplanned disruption to expect.
  • Their remaining jobs are to install a gate behind court 2 for the first time, replace the end fences on courts 1&2, remove the new kerb stones on court 7 and reset them lower down because you’ve got a fussy club project manager(!), and make good the sunken dips in various bits of the block and slab paving.

After this the remaining works are :

  • To retarmac the path under the balcony to remove the trip hazard onto court 1 created by the flood protection edging slabs. Until this is done please do be careful !
  • To prepare and lay edgings and a new tarmac surface on court 6 which will be fully painted and set out for tennis and pickleball. The line colours are still tbd but will be different to that currently on court 7
  • You will notice a huge green doormat and a new boot scraper outside the rear entrance to the clubhouse which is a not so subtle hint to kick and brush the sand off your shoes before coming into the clubhouse !

Squash

  • The first 3 courts are playing well, the bar is open until 10pm, and there is a great selection of beers and lagers. So several great reasons to get back down and enjoy being a member again !
  • The Recovery Team are still very anxious that we all keep sand and grit off the squash courts whilst the building is still only partly finished. Please, please be very careful and thoughtful – they are your courts !

Gym

  • The gym now has flooring down, skirting boards fitted and will have its decoration completed on Monday.
  • The original kit is being returned from storage next week and will be fixed down where needed.
  • The rubber matting can then be installed and the gym will be ready for use!

Table tennis

You might have seen a table tennis table set up in squash court 2. This is available to book using Mycourts or the kiosk on the wall inside the door to the inner hallway. The lights will come on (no charge) for the duration of the booking and there are bats and balls for you to use.

Changing rooms

  • Over the last few months in these emails we have talked several times about the choices and decisions we had relating to the changing room facilities we have available as we start up all the sports again after the flood.
  • Over the last week your Recovery Team has successfully cleaned and reopened the first section of what has now become the ladies changing room. This has involved some extensive cleaning and the laying of some new flooring.
  • This changing room can now be used as the ladies changing area and the entrance door has had the fob access reinstated.
  • The week after next further works will take place and we will be able to repoen the whole of that changing room to include 1 shower, 2 sinks with vanity units, 2 toilets, and the whole changing room space.

General

It feels like we have turned a corner as we now have 6 carpeted tennis courts, 3 fabulous squash courts, a table tennis table, and a bar & social space open until 10pm. Then in 2 weeks we will also have the gym back and two functioning changing rooms.

What we need now is for all our members to get back in the habit of coming down to use these fabulous facilities.

Best regards,

Your Duffield Recovery Team
