Duffield Squash & Tennis Club Update - 13/12/23

Dear [[firstname]],

Short

KBO

Longer (but not too long)

  • The strip out works to dry the fabric of the building is going well, which unfortunately means that the clubhouse is looking more like a building site everyday. Please be careful when coming into the club and do expect the unexpected, as we don’t want any accidents.
  • As explained in the last email the ladies changing rooms and toilets have been left alone for now and our new House Manager Chris has thoroughly deep cleaned them. This toilet facility will be available for ladies to use from now on and until we commence the reinstatement works, and specifically this is a far better solution for the social events over Christmas. The Gents can all use the hallway toilet.
  • Don’t forget that from now on the bar is open Mon to Sat 6pm til 8pm and there is a full range of cask beers, lagers, wines etc !
  • We have made the Pool table FREE to use as another incentive for folks to come down to enjoy a game and a pint. Is there anyone who is willing to start a Pool league or hold a competition of some sort ?

23 Town Street

  • We are very aware that several members have asked how they can help, even perhaps financially. This is very heartwarming to hear given the time consuming recovery work and thinking that has taken place over nearly 8 weeks now, and it also reinforces that our club means far more to lots of people than simply somewhere to play their sport. In practical terms there isn’t much members can physically do, and this will probably remain the case as the technical aspects of the building work ramps up. The answer about any financial support we won’t know until we get acceptance of the reinstatement building costs, and we have also concluded and agreed the scope of the “23 Town Street” ideas.
  • At that point we imagine there will be opportunities for philanthropic gestures, extended membership schemes, buy a brick / paving slab / square metre of court flooring, etc etc. We would be very happy to have a chat about this subject to help develop our thinking, and the best place to start would be a chat with Gren or Vic, or an email to 23townstreetduffield@gmail.com
  • Finally, and to the 25% of members who aren’t old enough to know what KBO means --------- as Winston Churchill would say - Keep Buggering On !

Best regards,

Your Recovery Team
