With sadness we inform you that one of our longest serving members, Eileen May Sturgess, passed away peacefully on Monday 16th October 2023 aged 91 years.
She was the dearly loved Mother of Lesley, Hazel and Roy.
Also a much loved granny, great granny, mother in law and sister.
A service will be held at Markeaton Crematorium (Main Chapel) on Monday 6th November at 12.30.
Family flowers only please.
Eileen and her husband David were members long before court 2 was built in 1972.
Their daughters, Lesley and Hazel and then Lesley’s daughter Nicole played at the club.
Eileen and David helped with the funding for the extra courts and then the gym.
She had her gym induction in January 1995, one of the first members to do so.
Eileen carried on cycling to the club to attend Lesley's coaching sessions on Friday mornings, until she was over 80. She was very competitive whatever game was played, but was always friendly and welcoming to newcomers.
After the funeral ceremony, the family invite you to join them in the Mundy Arms, Ashbourne Rd, Mackworth for refreshments.
Lesley would appreciate it if you could let her know if you will be going there.
