There has been much discussion and debate over the club having facilities to play Padel and you will have seen an earlier note sent by the council referring to this matter.
The planning application will be submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council by the end of this month. It typically takes around 8 weeks (end April) to go through the system and to get feedback.
We have also just had some good news from the Environment Agency as to locating 2 padel courts at the top right hand side of the site as shown at the last EGM. Their feedback was:
Quote “In summary, while the site sits within a flood risk area, the proposal is classed as minor development on an existing tennis court, with no change of use. On that basis, the EA has confirmed that a Sequential Test is not required, and that the scheme can be taken forward with a proportionate, site-specific Flood Risk Assessment to demonstrate no increase in flood risk, safe access and egress, and no loss of floodplain storage”. Unquote.
We are getting an updated Flood Risk Assessment asap but given the amount of work we have done in this area since October 2023, and how well we know and understand the flood risks, we are reasonably confident that there shouldn’t be an issue with this report.
This doesn’t mean that AVBC will grant permission, there are other considerations they will take into account, noise being one of them, but is a first hurdle cleared.
In the meantime, the council is putting a small team together to develop a business case, similar to that for gym & fitness, that we will use to forecast income and the effects on other areas, assuming planning permission was granted.
